Formatting tips

Tech Tip. When you are preparing your book for layout, temporarily turn on "hidden characters" in your software preferences (whether you are using Word, Scrivener, or any other kind of authoring tool). Then, make sure that there is only one space between sentences (not two like we were taught back in the day), that all centered things are centered using the "Center" function ... and make that paragraph returns are ONLY at the end of a paragraph. This will make it much easier to move your manuscript into InDesign or other kinds of software that people use to create the book block.

Comments:
~ Dwight Zimmerman: Good point about turning on the hidden characters. I did that way back when in my editing days. Once you get used to seeing the assorted symbols, it is so helpful on a technical basis.
