Dispatches - April 2012
Hi everyone,
It’s always wonderful to write when MWSA news is as optimistic as our spring weather! The good news starts with Joyce’s announcement that two of our MWSA members - 2011 Author of the Year, Jack Woodville London - and multiple award-winning author Del Staecker – will travel to both Italy and Spain. Jack and Del will speak before a variety of audiences about history, about reading, and about their books. They will also do book signings and present their fine work as examples of the stories we all have to share.
MWSA member Lt. Col. Vicki Hudson's ebook, CHOW, has been accepted for nomination for Dan Poynter's 2012 Global eBook Awards in both the Best Cover and Military non-fiction categories. The awards ceremony will be August 18 in Santa Barbara, CA, and as I write I’m researching into when the winners will be announced. Best of luck to you Vicki!
Congratulations are in order for Richard Barager's ALTAMONT AUGIE, which was selected as April's Book of the Month. his entry is a "startlingly vivid portrayal of one of the most colorful and turbulent periods in recent American history: the 1960s, as seen through the eyes of two ill-fated college lovers at odds over Vietnam." The Author of the Month is Tracey Cramer-Kelly for her most recent work, TRUE SURRENDER. Tracey Cramer-Kelly is an author and singer/musician. Her work fuses writing, music and visual imagery (visit http://www.TraceyCramerKelly.com for details) and includes novels, short stories, essays and music videos. Her first novel, Last Chance Rescue, was a Finalist in the Romance category of the Next Generation Indie Book Awards.
Great job by authors Buck Stienke and Ken Farmer for BLACK EAGLE FORCE: Eye of the Storm, which took the Top Honor for all Adult Fiction at the North Texas Book Festival on Saturday the 14th of April. This release is the first of the BLACK EAGLE FORCE series with the second, BLACK EAGLE FORCE: Sacred Mountain made available to e-book viewer on April 1st.
The good news doesn't end there! The winner for the William E. Meyer Award for April is Mike "Moon" Mullins for his stirring and thoughtful entry, LET THINGS GO
May's William E. Mayer inspiration phrase is: "In Memorium."
We will hold our second Online Book Discussion with Walt Shiel who will discuss his novel, ONCE A KNIGHT on Friday, April 27 through Sunday, April 29th. Joyce’s column last month noted the group will be “covering the literary techniques used to engage the audience necessary to create a book – whether it be fiction or non-fiction.” It will be moderated by Jack London.
