Tips and Tricks

Tips for writers, on a variety of topics.

Facebook to MWSA Forums

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Way back when, we had this grand idea that if we created a Facebook page, we could reach a larger audience and introduce them to our cool new website.  Well... we certainly reached the audience, but we still lack members getting involved with the MWSA website and forums.

We've recently undergone more renovations at the website to make it more user friendly without being too overwhelming.

Selling it slowly: When a book tour might not be in the cards

I just read Benjamin Busch’s article in the Authors Guild Bulletin. The author of Dust to Dust (which I have on my reading list) talked about how he hit the road to promote his book. He’s right, authors are an integral part of the sales force and he’s right that connecting with readers in person is important.

Self Publishing Misconceptions

Fellow author RJ Keller and I created, several years ago, a writers' comic relief YouTube series called "Inside the Writers' Studio."

We usually focus our episodes on the humorous aspects of some of the frustrations of writers (while also, at times, making fun of writers, as in our episode titled "Writer Stereotypes"), but after reading an interview with Sue Grafton in which she refers to self-publishing as "lazy," I guess you could say we set aside the "funny" and responded seriously to this misperception.

Tech Talk Table at 2012 Conference

Have a Tech Question?

During the MWSA Conference, I will be sitting at the Tech Talk Table. The table will be conveniently placed between conference rooms. Whatever questions you have, I'll do my best to answer them. While we want to focus on the MWSA website, I will also be answering questions about e-books, blogging, and software for writers.
