Marine Corps Heritage Foundation Award

I am honored to announce the latest award for my book; How Can You Mend This Purple Heart.

The Marine Corps Heritage Foundation has selected the book for the 2013 James Webb Award for distinguished fiction dealing with U.S. Marines or Marine Corps life

The Marine Corps Heritage Foundation preserves and promulgates the history, traditions and culture of the Marine Corps and educates all Americans in its virtues. The Foundation vigorously seeks financial support to complete the National Museum of the Marine Corps and Heritage Center and to promote, support and endow the Marine Corps' long-term historical research and educational activities.

Each year, the Foundation presents a series of awards to both Marines and civilians, to recognize their exemplary work in advancing and preserving Marine Corps history. Individuals are honored at the Foundation’s annual Awards Ceremony with the Awards being presented by the Commandant of the Marine Corps.

Other awards categories include; Journalism, Photojournalism, Non-fiction, Bibliography, Documentary Film, Combat Art and others.

Each award winner receives a $1,000 cash prize, a medallion and an engraved commemorative brick to be permanently placed along the Semper Fidelis Memorial Park pathway at the Marine Corps Heritage Center.

I have gained approval from the Awards Committee to have my brick engraved with the name of one of the Marines in my book, who died from his wounds 20 years after being wounded in Vietnam. The engraving will read:

Cpl. Felix Jamnitzky

USMC Vietnam Veteran

A special Certificate of Registration accompanies the Award. The Certificate will be sent to “Ski’s” sister following the Awards ceremony on April 20, 2013.

I am humbled to have my book receive such a prestigious honor. The Medallion will share the space with the MWSA Silver Medal that proudly graces my fireplace mantel.
