A Wandering Warrior is a historical fiction novel taking place in the late 12th century in England. The plot revolves around one Thomas Beaumont an iterant soldier, who was well trained in the use of the sword. Losing both his mother and father Thomas goes to live with his uncle who acts as his guardian.

His wandering and often times mercenary ways sends Mr. Beaumont on many adventures which in many ways put him in harm’s way on many occasions. He ends up saving a group of a travelling troupe where he falls in love.  Life is not simple for Thomas as he has to battle many a nobleman to gain his desired love.  Once accomplishing this task, tragedy will strike again and Thomas through many escapades ends up becoming a Knight Errant.  With this new title, Thomas is schooled in the combat arms and learns the responsibilities of what it takes to be a Knight Errant.  This is where again; he is put into a grand chase for discovery and revenge.

The grand finale will induce a startling ending which will make the reader glad to have read the book.  As a historian, I was never well read in this time period of England. In reading Gilleland’s book I gained much knowledge of this time period.
