Being in the military for more than one tour of duty means moving is part of your life.

For young children moving is traumatic. Friends and familiar surroundings disappear in the blink of an eye. Repeated moving can and does often cause life long problems with coping skills.

Experiencing this through a young childs eyes should be a wake up call for parents, primarily in the military but it applies to corporate executives and others as well.

How to deal with the myriad of issues it presents should be step one in a difficult time period for even the parents, who in the turmoil may ignore or brush aside the problems and concerns of young children.

A simple look at the event and how a childs mind deals with moving is eye opening, some deal well, others less so. Each no matter the coping skills can spiral down quickly. Grace at only nine is miles ahead in many ways over perhaps a majority of her age group.

The simple act of placing her thoughts on paper is a therapy. Encouraging children to place emotions on paper in some manner raises coping skills. "Lion's Pride on the Move" is a great book for military families primarily and should be part of a preparation package for military families prior to a move.
