MWSA Review

Curtis P. Gay’s story of joining the Army to become a clerk-typist and winding up in the infantry in Viet Nam is in that respect the story of a majority of those entering the Army. Promises made with loopholes galore.

“One More Sunrise” is told by a soldier that lived the experience.  Fear a constant companion, soggy feet and no showers for weeks on end at times, cold disgusting food, leeches, snakes, oppressive heat and those are the high points.

Curtis P. Gay tells his story as he lived it, allowing us a glimpse into his experiences in Nam. Subtle mentions of the rules we faced in that blistering hot country, a don’t go there, don’t go here, war. People forget it does not or should not have rules. Share Gay’s experiences in the field and the few brief breaks in such wonderfully scenic tourist mecca’s as Pleiku (not), the loss of combat friends and dealing with the aftermath of engagements.

This is a great read, easy, yet hard as it brings back memories good and bad. For those that were there when is the last time you thought about riding in a cart pulled by a water buffalo?
