Based on actual events that have been meticulously researched by writer/artist Billy Tucci, who walked the actual battlefields of France and interviewed the veterans of the campaign, “Sgt. SGT ROCK: THE LOST BATTALION is an outstanding, artistic rendition of the events surrounding the thrust of the 141st Infantry during the days immediately after D-Day. As the 141st penetrated deep into the Vosges Mountains, they soon found themselves cut off from the rest of the Allied Forces, surrounded and outnumbered by the German Army. For five days the 141st fought desperately to break loose while the stalled allied front tried repeatedly to reach them. Finally, on the sixth day, the 442nd Regimental Combat Team made up primarily of Japanese American soldiers broke through the Nazi lines to link the Allies with the 141st. The author did a great job presenting the story and his excellent artistic talents delivered page after page of superior illustrations. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and highly recommend it. If you enjoy reading about World War II battles or simply enjoy a good graphical novel, this book is for you.
