2011 Winter Reading List
Fortino is a fast paced story told in a slow manner. Entertaining because of the story as it unfolds but more because it is fact based. You read this book and wonder if you could have managed to survive all that Fortino endured in a short span of time.
Traumatic as it is to experience the death of one’s father, it is equally traumatic to experience the aftermath. It is clear that though young Fortino grew up fast, an all too common refrain. Taking revenge on his fathers and Uncles killers, being imprisoned, pressed into military service during the Mexican Revolution.
Fortino’s experiences would overwhelm most his age, yet he went on to freedom in the US and eventually returned to his home country. Each step along the way a life lesson and he in turn touched the lives of many in a good way despite a tragic past. A short book, with good lessons in it, worth the read.
