 Author's Summary

A grandson's reflection on World War II through his grandfather's experiences, and the translation of their service to the privileges and ultimate responsibilities of later generations.

My reason for writing this book is multifaceted. First, it is a contemplative look back into a distinctive time in America's history through the lives of my two grandfathers, Maurice Elmer Drake and Archibald Vance Houston; and an examination of their service to our great country during World War II. My life intersected these two men as a result of my parent's loving choice to adopt me as their son at the time of my birth. Second, it is a critical look into our present situation as a nation, as compared to and contrasted with our past, which I undertook with a burning desire due to the personal impact of my grandfathers' service. Lastly, this book is a consideration of the future of this great country as it lies in the hands of my generation and outlines our responsibilities: to protect it and to provide our descendants with the inherited freedom that was earned in blood by the Greatest Generation over sixty years ago. MWSA Review

Author Tim Drake captures the memories of both his grandfathers Archie and Maurice's service to this country in World War II. In his hardback edition of "Inherited Freedom" he lovingly records their personal story along with some history of others who fought with them. The author's respect and admiration is not reserved just for his relatives or for all those veterans of "The Great Generation" - as well as to veterans of all our nation's wars.

The book is unlike any other I have read about WWII. It takes the war that most people just read about in the lifeless and dull pages of text books and delivers it in a more personal way. The book brings history to you in an easy conversational like way. The author also interjects some of his own conservative and patriotic opinions throughout the narration of the book. He does a good job in bridging these past events with what is going on even today in the current conflicts around the globe.

Tim's book will ensure that future generations will long remember Archie and Maurice and those other brave men who stood in-harms-way and fought so gallantly in WWII. This book is will leave you emotionally invested in these men's lives- you will never forget them. And I guess that is one of the purposes that the author had in his mind when he wrote this book. He truly documents his love for them both!
