This book is a brief history of an American regimental sized unit (known popularly as "Merrill's Marauders") that fought in Burma during 1944 and, later, as part of Mars Task Force, as the 475th Infnatry Regiment. The book covers the organization, training, and most important missions of GALAHAD until it was redesignated at the 475th. It includes organization charts, sketch maps, photographs, examples of insignia, and a bibliography.

“Merrill’s Marauders” fought in numerous battles whose names are unfamiliar to the public. But the unit is legendary and unlike most units at the time consisted of all volunteers. The “Marauders” existed for a very short period of time, about a year; their name however will last forever.

“GALAHAD” is the history of their involvement in Burma. For history buffs it will hold great appeal. Descriptions of engagements and the issues of deployment in jungle areas is informative and shows the thinking of those in charge as decisions are made and the results of those decisions.

For military buffs it is mentioned that the first unofficial unit insignia was the P-38 C-ration opener. In reading this book you will come to understand the level of courage that existed then and still exists today in our military. You will walk away feeling humbled by their courage.
