New Book: Military Fly Moms Special Offer to MWSA members
Linda Maloney, retired Naval aviator, author and MWSA member, recently published the book, Military Fly Moms: Sharing Memories, Building Legacies, Inspiring Hope. It's a biographical collection of the inspiring true stories of 70 women who shared the same two dreams — becoming aviators in the military, and being moms. Here's what Maloney says about her book.
The stores are of our sisters, daughters, neighbors, friends, and, yes, even moms. These gutsy women have done it all. Decades ago, the first few of these women took their place in the world of all-male military aviators and paved the way for other women to follow. Female military aviators' careers are as varied as having flown rescue missions in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina to piloting combat aircraft in today's Global War on Terrorism.
The women encourage those who balance career and motherhood, support those considering careers in the military and/or aviation, and offer advice to young people on pursuing their goals and dreams. Each story in this book is accompanied by inspiring photos — from historical black-and-whites to present day full color — of aviator women in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and Air National Guard alongside their helicopters and jets, and military-related family photos. These stories and pictures are uniquely different, but together they weave a beautiful tapestry. The fabric tells a bigger story, and passes on a lasting legacy to inspire moms and future generations to reach for their dreams.
A portion of the sales of Military Fly Moms will go to Girls With Wings (GWW) organization as part of our legacy to sponsor the younger generation in achieving their goals and dreams. GWW (www.girlswithwings.com) is a nonprofit organization founded by former Army aviator and current civilian pilot, Lynda Meeks. She started GWW in 2005 to introduce girls to flight at a young age, encouraging them to reach their full potential.
