How could such a small portion of a man's life affect him so much? What can happen to a man in only two years that could so profoundly reshape the entire rest of his life? Why can't a soldier just forget it and let it go? I did hold it in and kept it mostly out of mind for decades. I've asked myself those questions, and my friends have asked that of me too. I have no answer except to understand that for those few months, every moment was so intense and so emotionally filled that it somehow burns into a man so deep that it becomes like a scar on the inside, but not visible on the outside.

All members have the right to submit an article, short story, essay, photo, illustration, or poem for the 2012 Anthology. The book is published at Conference time in September each year. Conference goers receive one in their conference bag so that they can use it as a yearbook, getting the signatures of their fellow MWSA members for a special keepsake. Imagine before the first book is distributed by Ingram Book Company that an historian slams a novel based solely on the subject matter.  Now, imagine that you later find out that the goal of said historian is to "put 19th Century American slaves back in their rightful place in American Civil War military history."  Finally, imagine that the first young adult to read the same book receives an "A" on a school book report.
