MWSA Review

Purkey, in her book "Miss You To Pieces - a Deployment Story and Project Idea for Kids" has created an excellent addition to the needed tool bag for spouses to aid in their children's dealing with the separation experienced in all military families.

Deployment is a necessary and integral part of military life. It is also the cause of much pain, most from a separation anxiety. Adults may not like deployments, but they do understand the need. Children only know a parent is leaving them and they will not see them. The closer the relationship the higher the feeling of abandonemnt is.

Purkey has created a simple, easy to follow and thought inducing book that aids adult and child alike. Approaching deployment separation as a game or puzzle helps time to pass more quickly and gives a child a feeling of some control over a situation they have difficulty understanding.

If this book is not already in the tool bag of all military libraries , schools and programs dealing with the subject it needs to be. This is a story of one person, a universal person, place the appropriate name in the story and apply the concept to your situation and you will find what had been difficult becomes manageable.
